Of Obarra to Alaón
Way of Bonansa
“If you are able in the silence of its surroundings, to listen to the stopped air of the time… you will possibly be happy by some tenth of second””
After crossing the Puebla de Roda we followed the passages of Labordeta in Bonansa direction: “The highway and the river return to intercross. To our left the Morrón de Güel and the Chordal… Serraduy and Beranuy are in the left margin of the river while to the bottom, towards the north, an enormous wall announces congosto to us and the defile…”. Serraduy is a small locality to which it is acceded by a medieval bridge of three arches that leads directly to the church. To little kilometers Beranuy, place that form two districts separated by the Isábena and united by another bridge Romanesque of double arches. To the right we left to Calvera and the view that the tower of the castle known as Castell House gives.
Shortly before arriving at the Monastery of Obarra, to the left of the A-1605 a highway starts to the Spa of I saw them of the Turbón. Another one of the many possibilities that our trip offers.
We arrive at congosto of Obarra, a landscape modeled by waters of the Isábena. It is here, on the feet of the mountain range of Sis, where we enjoyed one of the most complete examples of Romanesque from Lombardy, the Monastery of Santa María de Obarra, whose “interior of the church is amazingly beautiful”.
We cross the curves and tunnels of the close call of the Croquette. The highway initiates the ascent through a small port that ends at Bonansa. Back it is the Isábena, that during so many kilometers has guided to us. When arriving “the enormous structures that form the houses astonish to you”. Constructions that lodged enormous masses of equine cattle, that was the main wealth of these zones. Labordeta takes here a break in the way to speak with the people of the place of the economy, the border steps, the contraband, the emigration and the hunger. They speak of the rural school, of the organization of the regions, celebrations, you dance and dressed. Of the rich gastronomy of the territory as the crispillos or frechinat. They speak of the tourism, or its absence.
We leave Bonansa direction Pont de Suert and after promoting the highway awhile it descends towards Baliera, river that is born in the South slope of the Maladeta and ends at the Noguera Ribagorzana. To the bottom of the valley the medieval castle of Castarnés. Here the “limits between Aragon and Catalonia will be confused and the highway will be intercrossed by the different ones you are contiguous”. José Antonio is surprised of the little volume that has been lead by inner channels for its advantage in power plants.
We reach Pont de Suert, in the Catalan part, and again towards the south by the N-230, the highway borders the marsh of You climb until arriving at the small locality of Sopeira, municipality in which is the church of the monastery Romanesque of Our Señora de Alaón, to borders of the Noguera Ribagorzana, at heart of the valley under the shade of great rocky terrains. It is in this point where the waters are dammed of You climb.
Church of Santa Eulalia de Beranuy
Romanesque construction of origin. The later reforms of the s. XVI they form his present aspect. It emphasizes in the set his Romance tower, possibly of end of the s. XI. Of square plant and reinforced corners, windows for bells are opened in each of their great linen cloths and in the floor superior a geminado large window.
Viewpoint of the Isábena
In the stop of Bonansa, practically on the brink of madness the highway that we cross, divides an adapted footpath. An itinerary of about 500 meters that finish in a viewpoint on the high valley of the Isábena.
Monastic set Obarra
Its origin goes back at the home of the s. XI, when from Lombardy teachers began the construction of the church. Conserve three buildings: The basilica of Santa Maria, the hermitage of San Pablo and the rest of the old abbatial palace. In center of the set the church. It consists of three parallel ships, being the highest and wider power station, finished off by semicircular apses. Perhaps in the outer decoration original the frieze of rhombuses over the gallery of blind arcs exposes the Arab presence in the construction.
Monastery of Our Señora de Alaón
Of the old monastic set it is only the church and rest of the cloister. The church consists of three ships covered with barrel vaults, finished off with semicircular apses. The outer decoration we found a strip of blind arcs under a ajedrezado frieze, that repeats itself in the fore door, a means arc point with archivolts and crismón of Trinidad upon the key. In the priest the marble of the pavement draws an allegory of breads and fish.
